My CBD Story
I am no professional athlete (I dont even play one on TV) but I do try to keep fit enough to keep an able body. I’ll be honest I can get a bit carried away with my workouts. With the rise of content on social medias ( TikTok, YouTube, and Facebook) I am often trying out new exercises and variations that I’ve seen the best online coach me to do. Had a few kickboxing and crossfit classes that tested my limits beyond what I thought I knew I could. However, with those serotonin spikes came the little fine print of muscle soreness the next morning. Whoa!!! Everything hurt, every part of my body let itself be known in a sharp piercing uncomfortable aching. Ice baths helped but nothing did for me like the CBD.
How did CBD help?
- Anti-inflammatory properties: One of the primary effects of CBD is its potential to reduce inflammation. Intense physical activity can lead to muscle inflammation, which contributes to soreness. CBD interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which plays a role in regulating inflammation. By modulating the inflammatory response, CBD may help alleviate muscle soreness caused by exercise-induced inflammation.
- Pain relief: Is CBD good for pain? CBD may have analgesic (pain-relieving) properties. It interacts with receptors in the endocannabinoid system, including CB1 and CB2 receptors, which are involved in pain perception. CBD’s activation of these receptors may help reduce the perception of pain, potentially providing relief from muscle soreness and discomfort.
- Muscle relaxation: CBD has been reported to promote muscle relaxation. It may help reduce muscle tension and spasms, which can contribute to soreness and discomfort. By promoting deep muscle relaxation, CBD may aid in relieving muscle soreness and enhancing post-workout recovery.
- Sleep improvement: Quality sleep is crucial for muscle recovery and reducing soreness. CBD has been suggested to have a positive impact on sleep patterns by promoting relaxation and reducing anxiety. By improving sleep quality, CBD may indirectly help in reducing muscle soreness experienced by athletes.
- Psychological effects: Exercise-induced muscle soreness can also have psychological implications, such as increased stress, anxiety, and mood disturbances. Is CBD good for stress? CBD has been reported to have anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) and antidepressant-like effects. By promoting a sense of calm and relaxation, CBD may help athletes manage the psychological impact of muscle soreness.
It’s important to note that while there is promising anecdotal evidence and some preclinical studies supporting these potential effects, more robust clinical research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms and benefits of CBD for muscle soreness in athletes. Is CBD good for muscle soreness? Athletes considering CBD use should consult with a healthcare professional and be aware of the regulations surrounding CBD in their respective sports organizations or governing bodies.
